Last year I had the opportunity to work quietly on an animation short titled, 围绕这厨房桌子: Around the Kitchen Table 2024 in memory of my grandparents. The piece is showing at Mount Pleasant Community Art Screen from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025. Every 3 month or so, a different section will be playing that corresponds to the season and festivals. Hope you take a look when you pass by the area!

I created a little workshop video for Artstarts’ Explores series titled: Exploring Hidden Colours with Everyday Tools. Starting with the question “what if I have no art supplies?,” we will look for hidden colours that surrounds us in everyday life. With respects to the land and what it provides us, scraps and small samples will be harvested to explore, play, and make marks using household objects.
ArtStarts Explores is a digital series for creative and adventurous families. These workshops explore creativity through hands-on investigations and a wide variety of materials and artistic mediums. We invite families to experiment together through observing, touching, drawing, moving, assembling and listening to ignite creative learning. Click here to view the video through Youtube, or here to view through Facebook. Come by the Sun Yat-Sen Garden between May 26-28, 2023 to see the community inspired animation 一字千景: a thousand scenes in one word!
For more information, please see the short film program here I am so excited to share a new project: 一字千景: a thousand scenes in one word. It is a community engaged project that aims to connect the Chinese immigrant community with environmental values through calligraphy, drawing, and animation.
I am delighted to be part of the artist roster at Artasiam, an online gallery dedicated to the promotion of Asian Canadian art and artists. A few of my original illustrated pieces will be available for purchase there along with many beautiful artworks by other Asian artists.
For more information, please visit www.artsisam.com to browse and support. I am so honoured to collaborate with Laura Barron from Instrument of Change to do a series of "pop-up" art booth in the City of Vancouver this summer. Through story, poetry, drawing and painting, the public is invited to express gratitude towards their local community assets. Each creative work will be documented on a digital map and spread throughout the city in a surprise installation.
This project is supported by the Neighbourhood Matching Fund of the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation as well as Instrument of Change. For more information, please visit: It has been such a joy to illustrate the new Storywalk for the Donald Walkway in downtown Port Coquitlam.
“The Storywalk will feature the winning story from the 2020 Flash Fiction contest, a collaboration between the Terry Fox Library and the City of Port Coquitlam during May Days 2020. Port Coquitlam resident Jade Wong’s winning story, titled The Seed of Happiness, is illustrated by Wen Wen Lu, the City’s 2020 Lions Park Artist in Residence.” For more information, please visit: www.portcoquitlam.ca/donald-storywalk which includes the online and audio version of the story. Lions Park Artist Residency
Sun, Rain, Wind: an immersive experience in nature May to October, 2019 In these unprecedented times, there is a calming effect in nature. The beauty in a ray of sunshine, a gentle breeze or the rhythmic sound of the rain, these are the things that grounds us. Inspired by the setting of Lions Park and the community of Port Coquitlam, the artist residency seeks to create an immersive installation through individual stories of sun, rain and wind, collected together to form a united experience. Ways to participate include weekly Find Me Games, themed workshops, installation in the park and online memoir. For more information about the residency, please visit: lionsparkresidency.weebly.com With so many changes happening all around the world, I have been wondering what I can offer as an artist and art educator. After chats with friends, artists and other teachers, I was inspired to develop Family Artworks for the public through this illustrated style.
Family Artworks is a course offered at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Burnaby for adults and children to take together to create and enjoy family time. We cover a wide range of materials such as drawing, painting, collage, clay and sculpture with a focus on creativity. In light of the current events, we hope to share the joy of art making to the families at home through this new format. I will be creating one lesson a week and updating them here on this rarely used blog. You can also find the links at the City of Burnaby's website: www.burnaby.ca/covid19/online-activities From May to October 2019, I am doing an artist-in-residence at Richmond Nature Park called The Interpreter Project, a series of public events and workshops exploring the process of interpretation through stories, nature and culture.
The newt is an inspiration of the project; a native amphibious creature that is vulnerable because it cannot see nor hear well. Taking the creature’s limitations as a form of wisdom, the project provides an opportunity for participants to explore the park through the senses. The public is invited to meet the artist at The Interpreter Project launch event on Sunday, May 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Richmond Nature Park, 11851 Westminster Highway. There will be a drawing and painting activity for visitors to explore the senses of sight and touch. Tea and small treats will be provided. Additional workshops and events will be held throughout the year. Find out more at www.richmond/publicart or www.theinterpreterproject.weebly.com. This project is presented in partnership with the Richmond Nature Park Society and is part of the 2019 Engaging Artists in Community Program presented by Richmond Public Art. The Engaging Artists in Community Program aims to support artists with socially-oriented practices and encourages the development of a wide variety of art forms for artists working within communities. |
